Fiesta de Reyes

We absolutely love our church here in Washington, DC. We attend National Community Church and our campus meets in Gala Theater, a Spanish performing arts theater in Columbia Heights. Every year, to celebrate Epiphany, we volunteer with the the theater to celebrate the festival of the Three Kings. This festival is celebrated all over Latin America to commemorate the Magi in the  Christmas story. I love watching the children receive …

Annapolis

This past weekend Dave and I drove up to Annapolis for a mini trip away together. We spend the weekend walking around the harbor, eating Thai food, and dreaming about 2013. We really enjoyed setting time apart from our every day lives to intentionally plan for the future and focus on our marriage. It may have to become an annual tradition. A few photos from our weekend… We had a …

Christmas Cards: A Year in Review

Merry Christmas Eve! This is Dave and I’s third Christmas together since we’ve been married, and our first time sending Christmas cards. I have seen a few “Year in Review” cards floating around the internet and loved the idea. Dave’s brother, Chris, is a Graphic Designer and volunteered his talent by illustrating a unique card for us. I think he did an amazing job. Hope you all like them as …

The city of Lalibela

A couple of weeks ago I showed you all a few of our photos from the ancient rock churches of Lalibela. If you haven’t seen the post, you can check it out here. We really enjoyed touring the ancient sites around the mountain, but I think the city of Lalibela was equally as fun for us to explore. We were dad to have just missed a festival that was scheduled for …

Thanksgiving 2012

Dave and I went up to Pittsburgh to visit his parents for Thanksgiving this year.  My parents moved to Illinois this past summer, so this was the first holiday we have celebrated where our parents live in different states. It was strange not to be able to drive back and forth between homes, but also great to be able to be fully present with each of our families. We had …

Change Boys is a documentary film about a band of street boys whose lives have forever changed through the radical obedience of a few people. Producer, Co-Director, & Editor | Dave BakerCo-Director, …

Lalibela

Dave and I scratched a destination off of my bucket list while in Ethiopia: We went to see the ancient rock churches of Lalibela! I have wanted to visit this remote city in the mountains of Ethiopia since I first heard about it in my African History class in college. These churches were carved down into the rock of the mountain to create churches modeled after Jerusalem about 800 years …

Everybody Holga

Dave got me a great little blue Holga last Christmas and I have had a lot of fun figuring it out. For those of you who don’t know what a Holga is, it’s a plastic film camera that creates images with strange light flares, soft focus, and lots of vignettes. Though I admit I have been a bit frustrated with the little camera at times, I have enjoyed the freedom of …

Seeing through lenses

We are beginning the long process of sifting through footage and transcribing interviews in the next couple of weeks and are excited about what we see. I wanted to share a few productions photos to get you all excited for the film and also share a bit of what we saw over our two weeks in Ethiopia. We spent most of our trip looking through a lens,  worried about things like …

An Update… Finally

As you may or may not have noticed, Internet in Ethiopia was quite spotty, and we had a rather hard time posting to our blog; however, have no fear, because we’re back, rested, and have stories to share. First, we want to thank you for your prayers and support! The trip was full of life changing moments and beautiful stories. The video and photographs we collected during our time in …
